Search Engine Optimization near Veterans Admin. Fac. AL

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the method of improving the degree of visibility of a website or a web page in search websites through the "natural" or un-paid search results. Generally, the earlier ( or higher ranked on the search results page ), and more often a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users. SEO may target different sorts of search, including image search, local search, video search, educational search, news search and industry-specific vertical search sites.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search sites work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search sites and which search sites are favoured by their targeted audience. Improving a site may involve revising its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its significance to particular keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search sites. Promoting a site to increase the quantity of backlinks, or in-coming links, is another S.E.O method.
The acronym "SEOs" can refer to "search engine optimizers," a term adopted by a sector of consultants who carry out optimization projects for clients, and by staff who perform S.E.O services in-house. Search site optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing program. Because effective S.E.O may need changes to the HTML source code of a site and site content, SEO methods may be consolidated into website design and development. The term "search engine friendly" could be used to describe website designs, menus, content management systems, photographs, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimised for the purpose of search site exposure.

Early versions of search processes relied on webmaster-provided info such as the keyword meta tag, or index files in engines like ALIWEB. Meta tags offer a guide to each page's content. Using meta information to index pages was found to be less than reliable , however , as the webmaster's choice of keywords in the meta tag could most likely be an inaccurate representation of the site's real content. Inaccurate, incomplete, and inconsistent information in meta tags could and did cause pages to rank for unimportant searches.[unreliable source?] Web content suppliers also manipulated several attributes within the HTML source of a page in an attempt to rank well in search sites.
By counting so much on factors like keyword saturation which were completely within a webmaster's control, early search engines suffered from abuse and ranking manipulation. To provide better results to their users, search engines had to conform to ensure their results pages showed the most relevant search results, rather than not related pages crammed with countless keywords by devious webmasters. Since the success and popularity of a search engine is set by its ability to produce the most important results to any given search, allowing those results to be fake would turn users to find other search sources. Search websites answered by developing more complex ranking processes, taking into consideration further factors that were more difficult for webmasters to manipulate.[original research?]
Graduate students at Stanford School, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, developed "Backrub," a search website that relied on a mathematical process to evaluate the prominence of net pages. The number worked out by the process, Pagerank, is a result of the quantity and strength of inwards bound links. PR guesstimates the likelihood that a stipulated page will be reached by a web user who at random surfs the web, and follows links from one page to another. In effect , this means that some links are stronger than others, as a higher PageRank page is likelier to be reached by the random surfer.
